The Trust exists to improve the quality of school food, increase the number of pupils who eat it and the quality of meals eaten at home. Live helped develop partnerships with the commercial sector, sports bodies and trade associations to generate additional resources and activities which will influence the behaviour of children and their parents.
The Challenge:
With obesity levels amongst young people rising, the Trust was established by the Government to improve the quality of food served in schools, increase the proportion of pupils who ate it and, more generally, improve the nutritional quality of food eaten by pupils and their parents at home. To achieve this, the Trust needed to work with as wide a range of partners as possible, but must do so in ways which do not compromise its independence or reputation. |

School Food Trust, Eat Better Be Better
Live’s Role:
We produced guidelines, which the SFT Board have approved, to inform decisions about which partners are appropriate to work with. We have identified priority programmes for which partners will be sought. We initiated discussions with companies, sports bodies and trade associations to establish partnerships in each priority programme. We worked with other branches of Government in an attempt to avoid duplication of effort.
