The Caribbean countries hosting the 2007 Cricket World Cup are developing sustainable legacy programmes around sport. We are working with Legacy Barbados Inc on a long-term education and community development programme that starts in the second quarter of 2007.
The Challenge:
In spite of their reputation for producing first class cricketers the Caribbean nations are facing challenges encouraging young people to play cricket and sport in general. As in many parts of the world, social issues such as sedentary lifestyles have taken their toll on some areas of the community. Barbados is one of the countries that has realised this and its World Cup committee has instituted a legacy programme that uses the Cricket World Cup 2007 as a means to encourage entrepreneurship, social and sporting achievement and financial investment. |

Live’s Role:
We are devising a programme of educational activity based on cricket, football and netball for teenagers and we are identifying funding partners who can ensure the programme is sustainable. The first stages are scheduled to start in 2007.
